There is probably something you need to understand about Google in 2019 compared to when they started in 2006.
Google is first and foremost a paid platform
Google now shows up to 4 Google Adverts at the top of the page.
The great benefit of Google PPC Advertising is that you can get an advertisement on Google within a day or two and the phone can start ringing almost immediately.
The adverts are fully trackable. Where else can you spend your advertising dollar and actually know what is working and what isn’t?
A Couple of Tips to Help With your Google Adwords
Google is renowned for vacuuming the contents of your wallet if you don’t know what you are doing.
For instance, Google is always trying to get advertisers to use “Adwords Express” which is a semi-automated system for choosing keywords, creating adverts etc.
Never use this system, it is terrible and will cost you a lot of money for little or no return.
Also, if you have Google Adwords advertising set up, you will get the inevitable call from a Google customer support person offering you assistance to improve your advertising campaign.
Do not listen to them. In the early days when we tried their suggestions, they just made the campaign results worse. Cost of clicks rose, and conversions dropped.
If You Are Working on Your Own Adwords Campaign Make Sure;
- Your landing page on your website is totally relevant to the advertisement (If not you will pay more per click)
- You review your “search terms” regularly and build a decent negative keywords list (words that are irrelevant to your product or service)
- You set up your campaign so that your adverts are showing in the top 2 spots
If you are going to run Google PPC Adverts you would be well advised to ditch the DIY approach and hire an expert.
Firstly, to set it up correctly and then monitor and manage the campaign. There is a lot of tweaking that needs to be done to get the lowest “cost per click” and the highest “click-through rate”.
There are also lots of tweaks that we can do to get you the most real estate for your advisement. When I say real estate, I mean the amount of space and the amount of information Google will show for your advertisement.
If you look at the screenshot below you will see the first advertisement only has a couple of lines, whereas the 3rd advertisement has 3 lines of marketing message AND then a further line with click-throughs to individual pages on your website. If you have those pages showing you are more likely to get a potential customer to click as they can more easily see what they are looking for.
Now that’s what we call “real estate”!
